TO: ALL ATTENDEES OF THE MAXTON LUNCHEON
FROM: FRANK & JO ANN LEA
All former CMA cadets, faculty, staff and friends who will be attending the Maxton luncheon on Saturday, October 16th, are invited that evening to a gala party. It will be at our postbellum, faux, miniature plantation home located on a sprawling two acre tract in suburban Laurinburg. As with plantation homes of yore, it is located on water - the majestic Tara River.
The festivities include Alan Jackson (did you expect less?) with his karaoke machine. So start polishing up on your Michael Jackson or Joe Cocker moves. Alan will sing and play songs from 7:30 - 10:30. I would like for him to go longer, but my neighbors invariably complain about the noise. So here comes Laurinburg's
Heroes in Blue to tell me the noise is bothering my neighbors. I would invite my neighbors, but I don't like them and they don't like me.
Rumors abound that George Jones will perform. He last sang at my sixtieth birthday. It was supposed to be his farewell tour, but you know how these artists are with their so-called farewell tours.
Although much of the planned activities will be around the swimming pool, swimming is not encouraged due to the brisk fall weather. An exception is made for any survivors of The Great Basketball Game. The dress du jour for them is speedos.
There will be free drinks and food. We promise a place for you to sit or at least lean if you become too drunk and/or tired to stand. Jo ann and I look forward to your being with us. There will be lots of fun people and you.

Writer's note: There used to be a canopy of ancient oaks on either side of Rosewood Street leading to our ancient home. Sadly, these magnificient trees were felled when the nondescript ranch houses were built on either side of the avenue.
